BotPeeky Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026
This policy explains what happens with data when you use BotPeeky, the Chrome extension by 21x that tests whether AI bots and other bots can read a web page. It covers the extension only.
In short
- BotPeeky does nothing until you click its icon.
- When you click, it sends only the web address of the open tab to 21x.nl, which runs the test.
- We do not keep a list of the pages you test, we do not know who you are, and we never use your tests to contact website owners, for advertising or for anything else than the test itself.
Who we are
21x, Hoogbrugstraat 2A, 6221 CR Maastricht, the Netherlands. Registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 85191388. Contact: [email protected].
21x is the controller for the data described on this page.
What the extension does in your browser
- It only becomes active when you click the BotPeeky icon.
- It then reads the web address of the active tab, and counts the words on that page as your browser shows it. The word count is used in the popup only; the content of the page is never sent anywhere.
- It does not read other tabs, your browsing history, cookies, form data or passwords.
- It does not store anything on your device.
What is sent to 21x.nl
When you click the icon, the extension sends three things over a secure connection (HTTPS) to our server at 21x.nl:
- the web address (URL) of the page you want to test;
- the language of the result (English);
- a marker that the request comes from the extension.
As with any request on the internet, our server and our network provider also receive your IP address and technical data from your browser, such as the browser version. The extension sends no cookies and no login data.
Our server then fetches the page you asked about, the way different bots would. The owner of that website sees requests from our server, not from you.
What we keep, and for how long
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The test result for a web address | So that the same test is faster if it is repeated shortly after | 15 minutes, then deleted automatically |
| The number of tests via the extension per day | To see how much the extension is used. This is a count only, without web addresses or IP addresses | 12 months |
| A counter per IP address, stored as an unreadable hash | To prevent abuse (at most 8 tests per 10 minutes) | 10 minutes |
| Technical server logs of our hosting provider, including IP addresses | To investigate faults and attacks | A limited period, for security only |
We do not keep a record of which pages you tested, and we do not link tests to a person or build profiles.
What we never do
- We do not sell data, and we do not use it for advertising.
- We do not use web addresses tested with BotPeeky to contact the owners of those websites.
- We do not use data from the extension for any purpose other than running the test you asked for, keeping the service secure and working, and counting its use.
The use of information received from BotPeeky adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Legal basis
We process this data on the basis of our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): giving you the test result you ask for, and protecting the service against abuse.
Who processes data for us
| Party | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Studio Braad | Hosting of 21x.nl and its database | Dutch company, servers in Germany |
| Cloudflare | Network and security in front of 21x.nl; processes IP addresses and requests | American company with a worldwide network; applies the safeguards the GDPR requires for transfers outside the EU |
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Email [email protected]. Because we do not store which pages you tested or who you are, there is usually nothing we can link to you; we will tell you honestly if that is the case.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Changes
If the extension changes in a way that affects your data, we update this page. The date at the top shows the latest version.
